Hi all,

I was thinking of buying a laptop for this (file conversion) but I heard that you can't leave them on for long periods of time which is what I would be doing (I don't think I would shut it down unless I HAD to). Is that a bad thing to do with a laptop? Then I thought of a desktop but it isn't as portable... Can laptops be left on for long amounts of time? Thanks

Yes, they can. Overheating may (key word: may) be a problem, but you can always get a cheap cooling pad.

Providing the laptop doesn't overheat you should have no problems keeping it on for long periods of time

You can also leave it in a cold room. I use a laptop over 14 hours without shutting down, the cons is that it gets really warm fast, and the battery life (it is bad to leave recharger on the whole time while the batter is full, 2 of my laptops have broken battery because of that)
