burner gone wacko

recently, my burner started acting in wierd ways i didnt think possible. i would try to burn a cd, but the cd would come out with corrupt files. it got worse, and now, when i try to burn something, my cd comes out fried with grilled lines in it so deep, it almost goes through the cd. how is this possible? could it be too much power to the cd burner?
