Screwed up screen

I have a laptop with a screwed up screen. The top 2/3 is fine, the bottom third is a bunch of screwed up colors.

I'm going to buy a new screen online, but I'm afraid it could be something else besides the screen.

What are the odds that it would be the video card or something?

Besides the video card, the cable that connects the card to the display could be bad.

An external monitor works fine. I'm going to get a replacement display cable on ebay and try that before I buy a new screen.

I think I'm going to buy a new screen.

Inside the monitor underneath the screen is a LCD Inverter. Could it be the LCD Inverter?

Also the screen model number is "LP154W01 (TL) (AE)"
I can find lots of them on eBay for about $150. But I find a lot of part number LP154W01 with different letters after it like, "(TL) (A9)", "(TL) (A2)", "(TL) (B5)", "(A5)(K2)"...

Does it have to be "LP154W01 (TL) (AE)" or is LP154W01 enough? Some listings on eBay just say LP154W01 and don't specify the letters that follow it.

The inverter is just for the backlight. If the backlight works, the inverter is fine. I'd say it's probably a bad screen, and replacing the screen would be a good idea.
