8800gt and thermal paste..

I need help deciding where exactly do i apply my thermal paste.. Do I put it on the core like ive always done? or is this different? because when i opened up the card there was a TON of thermal grease on the card..

And..is it needed to use thermal tape?...

I completely cleaned both the core AND the heatsink.. althouogh ive always puut a dab of as5 on the core, im a little confused on where i should put this as5 onn the 8800gt..

wow they use a ton of that stuff. You should use something so the ram can make contact w/ the heatsink. I haven't seen anyone apply as5 to ram so I'm not gonna say to do that.

You just put it on that small black die part inside that metal square/ring and on the rams.

How much does this drop temps on the card? I might actually do this since I am starting to get P.O.'d with my temps

Not really sure, you should probably see something like a 5-10 degree C drop in temps depending on idle or load.

Also If you put as5 on the mem put too much. As there is a physical gap between the two.

hey guys if you look at the picture, the little white things (the ram stuff) can I put some artic silver on those? like if i take that clay stuff off?
and will it better my temps?

you mean the thermal tape? Take it off and put as5 on it. I see people using the ceramique mostly on ram.

use a non conductive paste on the rams in case of overflow you dont wanna bick your card
