Hey Guys,

Recently i was messing around with my paging file settings and i think i screwed up as now i get sometimes errors saying "Virtual Memory Too Low" no one on the interent can give a decent step by step instruction on how to achieve the optimum settings! Now my game (Far Cry) glitches and i have to restart my computer! What info must i provide in order to calculate the settings i need to set for paging files?

Its kinda urgent!

Thanks!

I wouldnt advise that, windows is shabby, to say the least, at managing PFs....

change the value of the pagefile to 1.5x the amount of ram you have...

Heres how:
Control Panel
Switch to category View
Performance and Maintenance
Adjust Visual Effects
Advanced
click "change" under virtual memory
Change the maximum AND minimum value to the same size, which should be 1.5x the amount of ram u have
click "set"
then Click Ok
if it asks you to restart, do it
Hey presto!
If you have two drives, set the PF to the drive that you dont use that much, so that neither drive is taxed horribly when you push your HDD to their limits

ok so in this case, i change it to... 1.5 x 2.00 = 3?

*edit*
HAHAHAHAHAHA

I had it at 400mb!!!

*edit #2*
Ok thanks, im about to restart, i set both at 3000mb even though the limit was 3070mb but just to not push it to the very limit...

Thanks!

you can set it to whatever you want by the way, its just a rule of thumb...

but really the BEST value is 1.5x, but i dont see what diference it wil make with the extra 72mb :p

PS it may not be a brilliant idea to triple-post in forums...

nope. Common misinformation about paging file is that you should have some multiple of your RAM.

Paging file is only there to give programs extra memory if RAM runs out.
If you have heaps of RAM, you usually don't need much or any paging file.

In fact, it's best to avoid paging file if possible. Hard drives are much, much slower than RAM is.
But if your PC runs out of memory, and you have to use more paging file, so be it.
I had it at 400mb!!!
then try 800MB or so.
Or if that isn't enough, try 1GB
but don't use more than you have to.

WRONG. 1.5x is for the old days. If he has 2GB ram, his PF should be at 1GB.
