Lapping?!

I've been reading up on lapping the heatsink, and I was curious if anyone here has tried that. If so, how much did it help lower your temperature by? I think my Athlon XP 2500+ is running a little hot, so would this be a good, cheap alternative?

Holy crap i jus reasearched this and did it it moved my load temp from 55C to 47C !!!!!! That is freaking awsome, terrific man...

Did you lap the heatsink, processor, or both?

just the heat sink and i added artic silver b4 it had this little pad maybe that was it...

My XP 2500+ is running at around 45-48 C idle and around 53-55 C under load. I have the stock AMD heatsink, so do you think lapping would considerably lower my temperatures?

theyre not dangerous and theyre fine but if ur gonna oc then try keeping them under 60 otherwise i cant get why ppl want to lower their temps othen than for bragging rights but that is the same reason i do it so i guess i shouldnt be talking
