Didn't they already announce this earlier? It's part of hybrid SLI, where the integrated graphics takes over, allowing the graphics card to shut off to save power.

edit: actually maybe that was AMD, in which case this would just be nVidia copying AMD's hybrid crossfire.

Yeah i read that in a gamespot interview when they were showing off the 790i and GX2's. the only Mb out that can support this feature is for AMD so far.

i think this is a bad idea and wont last long. its just gonna increase cost on chips, when an integrated gpu is not needed, hopefully theyl allow intel to use sli patents to make an sli chipset, or driver for x38.

I think yall are misreading this. From what i gather, all of their chipsets from here out will have an onboard video for hybrid SLI and power savings. Think about it. Those 3 GTX cards you have running up your power bill while you are surfing porn on the internet will be able to be completely turned off to save power and just use the on board video.

I look at some pretty graphically intensive porn, I might need all 3 of those GTX cards.

lol 3d rendered anime porn huh?

jk lol

as much as i'd like the prospect of SLI i've seen too many people whining about crappy nvidia chipsets to bother suffering with it. So i don't mind. The power saving concept is great, but why not just enable SLI to use 1 card like normal and shut the others off instead of switching to some piece of junk onboard chip.

The sounds like a headache to me. it'll just create that much more of a delay between loading instensive things.

IMO they should make it to run 1 GTX or ultra or 9800 or whatever as normal, and powerdown the other ones. itd be no different than peopel running 1 card now, which isnt bad, and 1 of those great cards would be enough to not induce any irritating delays.

Just what i think anyway.

The onboard video would use a lot less power than one high-end card.

^^ I'm not complaining about my 1 card. I'll take the few extra bucks a month hit if it means I don't have to put up with some extra junk.

It's the same Idea as that built in speed step power saver for intel CPU's that Everyone turns off.....

^^ Good thing about this is I can avoid it altogether by not buying nvidia boards.
