Can OC CPU but not RAM?

I have a ASUS maximus extreme, intel q6600, and partiot ddr3 1600 mhz

I can OC my CPU to 3.0GHz (2.4 stock)

But when i do that in my Bios the option for overclocking the Ram disappears. which is running at almost half the speed it should, running at 1066Mhz 7-7-7-20 timing when its supposed to run at 9-9-9-24 and at 1600Mhz.

Is this a common thing? how do i overclock them both at the same time?

Ram doesnt run at 1600mhz stock, its 1066mhz, so that is correct speed.

umm the RAM i have is DDR3 1600Mhz so im pretty sure it will run at 1600

What does the manufacturer state the voltage for THIS RAM should be at 1.6 Ghz?

Have you set it to that voltage?

Anyway, since you said you OC'd a little already, did you change the FSB:RAM multiplier? That could be the reason it is underclocked.

Well when i OC my CPU to 3.0 that option to change my RAM setting disappear, but if i leave my CPU at stock settings it will let me overclock the RAM to 1600
