two 8800gts in sli would kill 2 9600gt's in sli, there between 2 8800gts and two 8800gt. one 8800gt smokes the 9600gt but in sli it shoud surpass 2 8800gt, then the 2x8800gts is slightly faster then the sli 9600gt, its all confusing i know lol.

I wouldint say smoke, but yeah they do perform better. But look at the cost of two 8800gts 512's versus two 9600gt's.

There were benchmarks out there that said that 2x 8800 gt 512mb in sli > 8800 ultra... So i imagine the 9600 GT which scales better then the 8800 gt 512 sli, and the 8800 gts 512 which scales better then 9600 and 8800, would blow away the 8800 ultra.
I boil that down and i get:
- the 9600gt alone aint worth it
- the 8800gt aint worth it as i can afford the 8800gts and in sli the 9600 beats it
so comes down to once again either a single 8800gts or the sli 9600gt. maybe i should start a poll thread, we've sort of hijacked this one

Um no not at all...
$130 after MIR for a 9600 gt single card is amazing...
1 8800 gt 512 is also an amazing card for the price... it is not far away from an 8800 gts g92...

I know, what I'm saying is i have no problem paying up for the 8800gts 512....if i was pinching pennies then yeah, the single 8800gt would definitely be tempting. but since i'm already prepared to put some decent $$$ into the rig and the only feasible upgrade is the gpu (I have a 5000BE here on the desk) then those options of a single 9600 or 8800gt dont fit what i'm looking for.
