What exactly is the first link?

A mini computer - ? Or some kind of device that converts Usb to Firewire?

The first link is basically a Hardware RAID controller. (RAID - Redundant Array of Independent/Inexpensive Disks) It's used to store data in a fault tolerant environment or to speed up Readability and Writeability of data.

So basically you put a HD in it...and plug it into your computer?

Like a external Hard drive in a way..No?

Yeah. It connects through USB 2.0 so it's really fast and it just like having HDDs connected to your PC.

wow, how USELESS (unless you wanna build a friggin awesome server) is that?

the first one i mean . . .

You guys have to keep in mind that that is not really for home users, it is more of a business solution.

That's why the name of the thread is "money to blow, check this out". Stating, IF I had that much money to blow it would be nice having a HDD hooked up to my system that could transfer data on a 5x RAID 0 configuration using a USB 2.0 interface, and since the HDD RAID box is all hardware based and even has it's own CPU for RAID processes only, it has to work close to the theoretical idea that each drive adds 1x data transfer to the total transfer rate when using RAID 0 configuration. Would be pretty cool if it was affordable.
