Vista Shootout: Hotfixes Vs. SP1

Extremetech posted this to show benchmark differences and gaming differences between Vista, the hotfixed version and SP1.

SP1 usually has all the wins with the exception of Crysis where it sometimes dropped FPS and also in Supreme Commander, but the neglible 1fps isn't worth showing the FPS, how ever the 6fps from the "Vanilla Vista" is worth mentioning

This was their test bed:

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (at stock frequency)
ASUS Striker Extreme
4GB OCZ "Gold" series DDR2-800
2xGeForce 8800 GTX in SLI mode (stock frequencies)
Twin SATA II Seagate 7200.10 500GB drives in Raid 1
SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatal1ty

so its capabilities is pretty high :D

I wouldnt say that. Were they using Vista 32Bit with 4GB of RAM? If so they had already hampered themselves before they even started the tests. ;)

well i copied and pasted it so idk if they used 32bit or not

but what they should have done was also install XP and add some more benchmarks

That would not have been fair. As this is a exceptional machine for Vista it is a killer machine for XP. So the comparison would not have been fair. If that is what they are trying to do then you would have to run Vista X64 with 6GB of RAM to test Vista as they would be about equal to XP running 4GB of RAM.

Plus these are still just results from 1 machine running basically nothing. Add in some security apps and some real apps that people use everyday and watch the FPS drop down by a % or 2. ;)
