im wodnering if anyone knows how to use telnet with gmail, they seem to use tls but im not sure how to enable the auth command, heres what happens when i try it using it
me: telnet smtp.gmail.com 587

220 mx.google.com ESMTP j6sm9687077wah.6
me: helo
250 mx.google.com at your service
me: mail from [my email]@gmail.com
530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first j6sm9687077wah.6
me: starttls

Connection to host lost.


as soon as i starttls and i try any command i lose connection to host, is there something i need to type like an auth command? i tried auth plain but i dont seem to have the auth commands enabled when i type ehlo these are the avaliable commands displayed:
250-SIZE 28311552
250-8BITMIME
250-STARTTLS
250 ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES

Nope cant say that i have. From what i know Gmail uses Pop and IMAP service. I think you have to contact Google to find out how to make Telnet work.

I could be way off. I have not used telnet since the early days on the net for me. Like over 15 years ago. I dont remember much if anything about it now.
