okay so I fixed the optical problem that no one responded to...

but now I've got another one!

I plugged in the front audio ports into the X-Fi card, and it works!
great right?

Now I don't get sound from my speakers when I don't have my headphones plugged into my front audio ports

Speaker off - Headphones plugged in = Sound from headphones (check )
Speakers on - Headphones plugged in = Sound from Headphones and Speakers (check )
Speaker on - Headphones NOT plugged in = NO sound from Speakers (?????)

and Yes, I had my speakers ON

any input is welcome
