I think it depends, you didn't really try it out on a wide enough array of games - but if it's not offering any major improvement on the games you play most, then there's not much of a point really

exactly. It offered a pretty big boost in Crysis but I don't play that game at all...and in Cod4 the difference was marginal. I still get 60-100fps with my 3850pro with 4x AA and max details....so 75-110 is hardly an improvement. I think I'm going to go with my original plan of getting a x38 board and another 3850 or 3870 for CF when its required.

Or just wait for the 4850 or someth9ing

well, there is the element of future-proofing, but graphics cards have become pretty disposable - I think a second 3850 is a good idea, they are pretty cheap

a 3870+3850 in mixed mode... does it downgrade to 3850 speeds? or is a 3850+3870 > 3850+3850 performance-wise?

and say you set a 512MB 3870 in master and a 256MB 3850 in secondary, do you have 512MB of vmem in CF?

no, that's one advantage CF has over SLI. You can have different clockspeeds and memory sizes.

in cf mode, cant you also have 2 different kinds of gpus?
or does it work in sli too now?

Not in SLI. But CF does allow that.

yeah it has to do with how it renders the frame. With CF each card basically renders a "tile" and when its done it checks to see which ones haven't been rendered yet...and each card keeps doing that til the frame is done.

So therefore it doesn't matter if one is faster than the other.

I figured out my problem with ORB... some dip in a North Carolina community college was using my key... probably using a keygen or hack.. I'm getting it resolved as we speak. Actually the Futuremark staff are really quite helpful, quick, straightforward, professional and polite.

I don't know if anyone here saw my thread about a month ago where I told of how my computer was crippled. But just in case someone did, I figured I'd post that it's finally up and running again and I'm back to enjoying tf2 lol.

Now I have a steady job as well, so I guess I'm going to have to get back to my goal of reclaiming my spot in the top 5.........................
