So my 250 gb harddrive went poof, and as a backup short term solution, I picked up an 80 gb at the local bottom feeder, I mean, retail store.

Now I notice when I defrag with Executive Diskkeeper, my paging file looks HUGE, is this just because I have such a small drive now, or I may have some things I need to change...

Here's a screencap:
The yellow block is the paging file.

It seems like a big chunk of space it's taking up on my drive, is it necessary and can I lessen it?

The reason it looks bigger now is because you went from a 250GB drive to an 80GB drive, so naturally the page file is going to take up a bigger percentage of the disk.

By default, windows manages your paging file (and I believe sets it somewhere between 1x and 1.5x the amount of RAM In your system). You can control this (In XP) by going into system properties, advanced tab, then click settings under the performance category.
