I do not know much about this. My MB has 4 slots for SATA II. I am only using 2 of them for my SATA II HD's. I am using an Memorex IDE DVD burner now. I noticed Fry's has a great deal on a SATA DVD Burner by Pioneer.

Can you answer my question?

What are the benefits of using a SATA dvd burner vs. normal dvd burner?

Thank you,

Freddy

Well you can have a lot in your system...some mobos have 8 sata's so you could have two drives and six burners, i have three myself.

as everyone else said, having a 'SATA DVD burner' really means/does... next to nothing... its just that SATA is a faster, more efficient, more modern connection than IDE... you wont really notice much difference, but if you can get a deal on it and its better in other ways than the drive you have, id go for it... :) - RK
