I KNOW I have the right RAM that is compatible with my Motherboard.

Im trying to install duel 1 Gigs to equal 2.

For some reason the computer will not start with both compatible Ram units installed, And only start with ONE of them installed( on any slot),
However when the computer RUNS it shuts off by itself.

During my numerous attempts to get both working I smelled something burning
(most likely due to a short)

However Ive tried all slots and Both RAM units can start the computer
on all slots (even After the burning smell)

BUT MY computer still crashes and shut off.

Is the computer/motherboard TRASH now that something burned out?
If so then why would the computer still start?

NEED HELP PLEASE.

i had the same problem with my old gateway system recently i just had to keep changing which stick was in slot 1 and then slot 2, only 1 stick, 2 sticks, basically going random and rebooting after maybe 50 (no fing joke) it booted no problem and no problems since no idea why but you might want to just keep trying...

also do you know if your board can support 2 gigs? and if so is that the max? my board is temperamental because it can only support 1gig and thats what i was putting in maybe if you are at max capacity the board struggles...

What ram are you using, is it DDR2? If so, check your memory voltage in bios and see what its running at. You want to make sure its at least 1.8V, sometimes higher depending on the model/brand of ram. This can be found on the sticker of the ram you purchased.

I checked the RAM out and made sure everything is compatible.

I think there are other problems with the Drivers on the computer
that need updating...

Whats a RAID controller?
