is it possible to over power and ruin parts or do the power supplys just distribute the amount of power needed? like just incase i got something too powerful or somethin.

alright good cause i know someone who can give me a power supply and its like 7 or 800w i think and the one you guys suggested was only 520w.

Yea, one would only need 700+ Watts if they have like tri or quad crossfire/sli and or phase change/peltier cooling.
Or 8+ harddrives and or optical drives.

ok so i have my build just about all picked out. heres what ive picked so far:

-EVGA NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX motherboard
-EVGA GeForce 8800GTS
-Intel Q6600
-mushkin 4GB DDR2 800 ram
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB HDD
-SAMSUNG DVD burner
-APEVIA X-JUPITER G-Type case

now all i need is a power supply thats cheap but will do the job. can someone help me out. thanks.

Dude the power supply is over kill, the video card is nice, but do not get it. The 9XXX series are coming out at the moment and I m guessing you might be able to afford one of the 9800GT series or at least a 9600GT. Trust me go with the 9600GT even if everyone here is a hater. For one it would be cheaper and just as good.

i think im gonna stick with the 8800gts. from what i hear it overpowers most cards and is still better than most the 9 series comin out soon.
