i was planning on using AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton Core and it will be used for gaming but only have about $500-600 for ram, video card, mobo, and new psu

OK, it's going to be tight. Gaming (depending on what games) demand a lot of your computer. I figure at the very least 512 of good RAM (around $70-100), 9600X video card (around $175), Your motherboard choice is good (around $75-100). Now you have to figure in the cost of CPU if it wasn't include with the price you quoted and such things as HD, DVD, CD, etc. If the $600-700 is just for the RAM, Video Card and motherboard, and PSU then you can look at 1 Gig of good ram, maybe a little higher end video card, and the motherboard is still a good choice. Make sure you get a very reliable PSU.

500-600 is for the cpu, ram, psu, video card, and motherboard.
was gonna go with the following setting until i saw the email in my first post.

---ATI RADEON 9800PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP $223
---AMD Athlon XP 2800+ "Barton", 333MHz FSB, 512K Cache Processor $121
---ASUS "A7N8X-E Deluxe" nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU $89
---Fortron 350W ATX12V Power Supply with 120mm Fan, P4 and AMD ready, Model "FSP350-60PN" $40

and the memory was
---Kingston HyperX Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-2700 $110

what are some other options for memory that i could go for?

Go to the Asus website and look at the Qualified Vendor List for your motherboard. I have the A7N8X-X and got 512 MB of Corsair XMS.
