The 9600gt vs. 8800gt

I've been reading a number of different threads and forums on the net lately. Most of the sites shown have given benchmarks which show the 8800gt being the superior of the 2 cards. However, my question is wether there are any worthwhile advantages to the 9600gt other than price considerig it is a 9 series card as opposed to an 8 series.
Also, both of these cards should work in a GA-P35-DS3R (a beauty of an overclocker by the way) despite being pci-e 2.0. I hear that the speed difference between the two formats is currently nothing to worry about. Correct?

Correct.

Not really any advantages compared to the 8800GT 512 in terms of performance. I would suggest this 8800GT:

Yea, cards cant even use the speeds of a normal pci-e slot to the max yet, also, the 9600gt is 512mb, it beats the 8800gt 256mb, and trails not far behind the 8800gt 512mb.

Fair enough, but will my OCed C2D e6320 (3GHz) be a bottle neck to the performance of either?


PS:- By the way, it's to replace my 6 month old XFX Fatal1ty Edition Silent 8600gt, I got Crysis and as presumed, it stutters. Will my OCed C2D e6320 (3GHz) be a bottle neck to performance of either

IIRC isn't the only difference of PCIE2.0 an increased amount of power delivery through the slot itself?

It also allows two times the bandwidth available to the card.

No, I dont think that the oc'd e6320 would bottleneck either card, and if it did, then only very marginally.

the 9600gt is aimed more towards the hd3850 as a competitor, so don't compare it to the 8800gt

Most people over exagerate on bottlenecking, on my system, at 2.7 right now it would bottleneck a 9600gt, but it wouldnt be that much really, maybe at 10% loss in fps, which at low fps, isnt much(40fps down to 36fps), and high fps, isnt really that much noticeable (100fps down to 90fps).

Not necessarily in every game/res. Especially when oc'ing comes into play. A lot of those benchmarks are pretty wrong, since i see full 8800gt 512mb speeds untill i turn on aa/af.
And yet, amd systems do bottleneck the cards quite a bit, a core 2 duo system at the same speed gets about 2k more in 3dmark06.
