hello ive just reinstalled windows xp on my sony desktop for the first time and am having some trouble. it is with my onboard audio, i cant get any sound out of my motherboard sound. i went on the sony website, downloaded all original drivers, and installed them. but when i installed my audio driver it seemed everything installed correctly, then i reeboot and it was like it didnt even install. i still go to sound, game controller... and no sound or audio is selected or able to be selected. i even go to device manager and cant find the driver i installed. how do i get it on my system?? thanks

Check your BIOS and make sure onboard sound is enabled.
Also make sure all your mothertboard drivers are installed.

all the other drivers installed good,, but for some odd reason this one doesnt. it seems it installs but never shows up on the system. i dont know how to check my BIOS and make sure onboard sound is enabled. if u could give me step by stem id appriciate it becaus e im not too good with computers. thnxs

Well you hit either Delete key or F2 or ESC upon bootup to get into bios. Then you go to Advanced menu onboard devices. It could be a little different in your Bios.
Open the onboard devices and select onboard sound and set to enable.

checked it out and it is already enabled. i feel like i tried everything n i have no idea y i have this problem ive reinstalled windows and the comps drivers on many computers and this is the first time id had this kinna problem. please anyone have ne ideas??

Try windows update, windows sometimes find driver updates for hardware..
If windows doesn't find the update, goto the mobos manufacturers page and download the onboard sound drivers manually.

i just got the comp connected to internet and ran windows update, no change. n i checked with the manufacture sony and its board intel. the board is an oem designed for my sony computer so downloading from intel is ruled out and sony support specialists just told me to reinstall drivers and in safe mode, both didnt work n since im using a retail windows they cannot gaurantee support and compatabilty but i still believe there must be some solution. ???

What motherboard do you have? post your mobo number, and I'll see if I can find you an updated driver. If it's an old board, finding audio drivers can be annoying as ****, but there usually there.

thanks alot man but i already checked with intel and i downloaded the closest thing to it which it a D915gvwb- exactly my board except without a x16 pci express slot. n i downloaded the driver for that and same problem. On thier driver it showed up in add/remove programs but still no driver in device manager or sound, game controller...
