I would never do that lorithad -_- at the rist of frying a mobo....too many variables.

I'm curious to know what sort of variables you seem to think are involved.

All you gotta do is close the circuit between two pins for a second or so. That's all the power switch in a case does.

The most likely "variable" that could happen, would be you sneezing on your motherboard. Or a static shock.

i just dont like the idea of putting a screwdriver onto a mobo that has power going through it... but hey i have a case so i dont have to do that if it works for you guys then good.
