Is it dangerous to build without a static wrist band? Even on hardwood?
I would assume so, but I was just wondering. Do you always use one?

I never use one. Just make sure to touch some unpainted metal (even the PC chassis) to ground yourself out. Heck, I built mine on carpet (although its the high-traffic kind, so it doens't induce much static).

I do all of my work on the carpet. Like carnage said, just touch the case before any components. Usually, best practice is to touch the case to discharge, then unplug the PSU, then press the power button a few times to discharge any left over power in the capacitors in the board/psu.

Thirded. I never used one, never will, just be careful when building. Of course, like everyone says, touch the inside of a case to discharge any static before you touch any parts.

I try to always remember to wear the band, to discipline myself. Maybe I'll take a break, leave the project (go walk on carpet), and when I come back I forget to touch the case before picking up the motherboard, things like that. Everyone makes mistakes.
