Raid setups

ok, I'm ordering a few more parts for my computer today, but I had a question. do I need to specify RAID settings before powering up the beast? *i.e. can I buy my HDD's at different times and add to RAID array?*

Step 1, read the wiki on RAID RAID - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Step 2, decide what kind if RAID you are going to be using.

Once you have done that you can ask that question again if you don't know the answer to it.

thank you emperor. read and bookmarked the site. it will take me a while to memorize that. I hope I can do this without being in trouble, but I have another question. if I'm using my 10k drive for OS and a few other programs, and a reg 7200 for mass storage, would RAID5+1 or RAID 0+1 be better? *hope I labeled those right*, keeping a slight possibility of adding a third drive later on?
