Get coretemp,cpuz,gpuz software. They're free. Coretemps obviously monitors your cpu temperature. You should be idling around 20-40 c depending what cpu you use. Or if it's too high then you know you've either installed the heatsink wrong or didn't apply the thermal paste correctly.
