Dual Core or Quad core?

I don't want to spend too much on the motherboard and CPU. Should I get the
DS3L motherboard with the q8400 or a quad q6600? i would like to keep everything under 400$

Depends on what you do with the machine. If you are like me and always have a ton of programs open, a quad core is great. If all you do is play a game and dont have much else going on in the background a dual core should be fine. But just know that as time goes on, more and more games are going to support multi core cpus. So if you plan to keep it a while, the q6600 will benefit you far more down the line than the e8400.

sounds like I might get the quad. I hate having to upgrade all the time. I'm 17 I don't have the money lol.

go q6600 im 17 and thats what i did. i noticed that cod4 uses 3 cores in some situations. but none of them go up to 100% anyway i get abotu 3 cores at 30% each, does this happen to anyone else?

yeah happens to me Amd. the 4th core seems pretty idle. it's kinda weird but i never paid it any mind.
