I am planning on getting a q6600 . One motherboard I am looking at has
Front Side Bus 1333 / 1066 / 800 MHz
The other
Front Side Bus 1066 / 800 MHz

So my question is
1 as the bus speed on the q6600 is 1066mhz how would the fsb 1333 help me or would it be a waist of time as the q6600 would not use it or would it.

2 if you overclock the q6600 would it work just as well on both

1333fsb is just for stock speeds

so yes you can overclock a q6600 to 1333fsb and it'll still work on a non 1333fsb board

Thanks guys for the help.. it was all those numbers I thought I was getting the hang of it then woooosh it went straight over my head.

I had my eye on 2 boards the asus p5w dh deluxe which has the intel 975x / ICH7R chipset 1066mhz and as the board is getting old the price is quite good.
The other was the asus p5k premium but that had the intel p35 / ICH9R chipset that's not as good but as its newer and got the ich9r that gives it 1333.

getting a board with both 975x and the ich9r would be ideal but they cost to much. So the p5w dh deluxe has all the toys I want including the 975x (and its cheaper )but I get stuck with 1066mhz. So I was thinking if I put the q6600 in it and that runs at 1066mhz it should go quite well. But as I wanted to overclock it I would think (but I'm not to sure) the 1066mhz on the cpu (q6600) would get turned up. So if I overclock it up to 3.2g = ? mhz or whatever it was stable at. It would be quite I bit over 1066mhz on the p5w. What I'm trying to say would I be wasting my time clocking the q6600 in p5w dh deluxe if you wont see much difference and would you see the difference in the p5k premium.

Careful with those "intel" boards, sometimes they dont have overclocking options. Stick with companies like gigabyte, abit, asus...uh, drawing a blank. PErsonally depending on your budget i would suggest going p35-ds3r from gigabyte. I ran my q6600 at 3.6ghz fine and dandy with it, great board.

Wait, why are you looking at the 975x chipset? It's dated. The new equivalent is the X38 chipset.

As I was looking for a performance set I went for the 975x because of the price as the x38 cost more. Now you've just made me notice something I presumed all the performance sets out performed all the mainstream sets. Now I'm thinking the high end mainstream chips would out perform the low end performance chips. So do you think the p35 would out perform the 975x and what chip out of the mainstream set would be = to the x38. Oh its a complicated world we live in.

Aren't they basically pretty even except the 975 has dual 8x crossfire lanes as opposed to x16/x4 w/ higher fsb. I would either wait for x48 to come out and see x38 prices drop or grab a p35. The 975 has had its day.
