I am going to upgrade my pc to a new video card and its either between an 8800 or the ati 3870. Which will be better for my system i have now? I will be upgrading in the future. I dont want to spend too much money(about $300 is good), i just want like double or triple the fps i get now. (about 40-60 on CSS with med-high settings)
I was thinking this one: Newegg.com - DIAMOND Viper 3870PE4512SB Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
unless you guys have links to a better one.

Specs:
KN8 SLI
x1600pro 512mb
AMD 64bit 3200+
2gb ram

Well right now the 8800gt pricing is pretty comparable to the 3870. You can find some for $230. The 8800 does edge out the 3870. Have you checked out the 3850? It's still a good card for $170. I would choose between these two.
NCIXUS.com - Buy His Radeon HD 3870 ICEQ3 775MHZ 512MB 256BIT GDDR4 PCI-E 2XDVI HDTV Out Video Card - H387QS512N.
Newegg.com - ECS N8800GT-512MX+ GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
The cooling on both are good

Personally i would go for the 8800GT, it out performs the 3870 hands down. The GTS 512mb is actually a little better but not worth the extra 80-90$ for a very small performance increase.

you can get a 3870 for $200...where a GTS is still $300

the extra $100 isn't justified on your system. It is still going to be bottlenecked severely by the CPU
