I know all about how awesome the Corsair 520hx is. I have one. I also know that amps are what matter, not wattage. But at what point do you have to go bigger?

I am possibly going to be building a 780i w/ possibly 2x 8800GTS 512, e8400 and maybe some DDR2 1066 tracers. Is that 520hx still good? even with OC and SLI? I am not going to be building this for myself, so I need to know* that it will be PLENTY of power, and they will feel ok with it.

It "should" be enough, however, it won't leave much room for upgrades or additional parts, go with the 620HX and then you will be fine.

620hx is the same thing as the 520hx, the extra 100watts come from the 3v rail nto the 12rails, so theres no point in getting that

look at the 650tx

link?
and what about 4x12v rails? where are they used? how much diff do the extra rails make?

Enough for now, but not a few builds/upgrades down the road..

You sure about that? Down the road everything will just use less and less power.

Just look at the last year. Q6600 B3 to Q6600 G0, to QX9650...more and more efficient.

2900XT to 3870x2 (basically twice the power of a 2900XT, using the same amount of power)

G80 to G92.....and so on
