Registry?

I just restarted my pc and I got a message saying there were problems with the registry, apparently parts were missing or damaged , its a legit message not a advert etc..is there any way I can "repair" the registry without reinstalling?

Try a windows repair (Not recovery console) through your OS disk.

I don't have the disk, not because I downloaded it or what have you but it's my friends but he was using vista and never used this copy but he wanted the disk back, in short I don't have the disk but im not encountering any errors etc, I have installed SP3 too and that seems fine
