I built a new computer using: Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless m/b,
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400 + AM2 Black Edition as CPU and a 500 Gb
SATA har drive.Initially I intended to install W98 but everybody
advises against it,therefore I will install Window XP ( I have the
upgrade version )

What I did so far:
1) Boot priority 1 : CD-ROM ( in BIOS )
2) Insert XP CD into the DVD drive
3) Start computer

Result: Message appears " Press any key to boot from CD...missing
operating system"

After pressing any key,nothing happens.

What could the problem be ?
Do I have to partition and format the hard drive first and if yes, how.
I read somewhere that this can be done once XP is installed.Right or wrong ?

I appreciate your help.

Press the key while it says to press a key. Are you using a ps/2 board or a usb board. A ps/2 keyboard is necessary.

Since it is only the Upgrade Edition you will have to install Windows 98 First.

There is a way to use a upgrade disc for a full install...

XP Clean Install

Read thru that it should help you out. You will format the drive before you install. As you have to have at least 1 partition created and formatted in order to install Windows XP.

A PS/2 Keyboard is not necessary. I have a USB Keyboard that works just fine to isntall XP, Vista, Linux and OS X. AUSB Keyboard is jsut fine. Espically if you can get into your BIOS and mess with that with the USB Keyboard.
