partiton problem, please help, urgent

Hi,
My brother-in-law just bought himself a sony vaio laptop. the hard drive for some reason came partitioned in half, one part for data, the other is empty and will stay empty, its for "videos and images". how do i go about deleting that partition without messing up the hard drive itself, and os, etc.

u have to boot the drive from DOS prompt

and the DOS command for partioyioning is:

c:/FDISK

delete the partitions, and make 1 single new partition.

(or) if u in london area, come to me, i'll fix that out for u

If using window xp, u can just reformat n use it as a 2nd drive.
