Well, I have finally convinced my mom to front me enough money to get my computer started. I am sick of this stupid Dell POS. Anyways, I want to build a semi-specific computer that will be able to run anything under the sun game wise and go fast enough to keep up with me. All this has to be completed witha price tag of 2000$ or less. That includes shipping preferably. Now what I need is for some expertise on the matter. I have ideas, but I don't quite yet have enough knowlege to actually pick which parts are better than others. So, if you wouldn't mind, give me any helpful advice that you want or ask any questions you might have on clarification. Here is a list of parts I was thinking of getting or want.

Case: Lian-Li PC71 or PC 70 with clear side panel (other suggestions?)

Graphics: Radeon or Nvidia?

Monitor: 17" (preferably LCD for sake of saving room)

RAM: 1 gb Corsair (single or dual channel?)

ROM: CDRW (possibly DVD burner?)

Speakers: Something with good sound, but not too pricey.

Keyboard/Mouse: Logitech wireless k/m.

Sound card: Don't care.

Hard Drives: 40 gb(ish) 10,000 rpm and 120 gb(ish) 7200 rpm.

Mobo/Processor: This is where I really need help. Keep in mind it will mainly be used for gaming, Flash, and Photoshop.


Well, I think that is most of what I really care about. I hope i'm not missing something. So is this a possible setup for around 2000$? I hope this was the right place to post this and if it's not, please do tell me.

If you look at my thread entitled "Does this sound like a pretty good comp?" I think you'll find a good solution to your problem. I spent months talking to all sorts of people and doing research just about every night trying to find the best system I could build for under $2,000. Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm reading through your thread right now and it is sounding pretty good. Needs some tweaking for my needs, but what I wanted to know was if you had links to all of those parts on new egg so I could check them out and make a running list? That would make things a lot easier for me.

Well I will tell you that the fact of ATi vs. nVIDIA is that if you want a powerful gaming card that will run sweet for a year or two go with the ATi x800XT, if you dont want to spend money for a couple of years, go with the 6800 nVIDIA cards.

Without shipping it comes to 1988 with shipping I estimate 2,040. I had to downgrade the LCD to 15" but this is what I would do if I wanted all of the stuff you want on your computer.

Take your time and do your research. It's invaluable and time is on your side (prices drop while you do your research) Newegg is great...I also like to do virtual builds on Monarch computer site, they have lots of options. Research the individual componets start with case and power supply then mobo. Check out the ratings at resellers.com. Don't settle for inferior power supply it's a very important often overlooked componet thats the root of numerous problems. I like the lian-li cases very much. Have fun and learn!

watch from were u buy ur parts from though dont urse companies youve never heard of b4 newegg, tigerdirect, and some others are legit but some arnet so ask around if u find a store u dont know

Thanks for everyone's imput. For the past few days all I have done is work at my stupid little job and look at computer parts online when I got home. It has finally payed off, I think. I hope. After taking into consideration everything I know, what I have been told, and what I have read, I think I have finally come up with a configuration that I will think about buying here in a couple months. Now I want you to evaluate it and see what you think. See if you think there needs to be any tweaking done to it or if you think I should get a different part. Anyways, I'll appreciate any feedback. The only things missing, from what I can tell, are the mouse, keyboard, and monitor. I figure I can buy those at Circuit City so I don't have to deal with shipping and such.

I will attach the actual .txt file so you can open it if you would like. It is done to look better and be more organized. Well, here you go.

The processor and mobo don't match . You have a socket 939 mobo which will accept the 3500+ , 3800+ , and FX-53 . All other Athlon 64 processors go on socket 754 .
