Buying a laptop for linux...

MY close bud offered to sell me his laptop for $350 its an averatec 4200. I've seen it and he takes care of his stuff nothing is wrong with it. BUT, I want to upgrade the processor, If Im not mistaken he has the Pentium M 730, Its the M that is 1.4ghz. Now what would be my best upgrade to put in there? I thought about a pentium M 1.86ghz but then i saw Intel Mobile P4 HT 2.8Ghz Laptop CPU ... I know you should never just go by Ghz alone , So which architechture is better?

The pentium M is going to offer better battery life and run much cooler. Also the Core2Dou chips are based in part on them, so they are generally better than pentium 4s.

^^ I figured that about the petiums being hot... So it looks like pentium m is the way to go...
