Alright so here is a comparison between the P35-DS3R and the P35-DS3L.
I'm buying either board soon but I just wanted to make a comparison to what's so different of the two.
There might be a few differences between the two, but it's only a slight differ.

Here are a few questions I'm trying to find an answer for:
What I'm wondering is why do people choose the P35-DS3R over the P35-DS3L?

What are these and what does it mean?
Onboard USB for P35-DS3R: 2 x headers support 4 x USB 2.0 ports
Onboard USB for P35-DS3L: 8 x USB 2.0
(Still a bit confused seeing that the DS3L only has 4 USB 2.0 in the rear I/O Panel)

Also, what is the difference between these two features?
Features for P35-DS3R: Ultra Durable 2, Ultra Cooling
Features for P35-DS3L: Ultra Durable (All-Solid Capacitor Design)

What does JBOD mean in the RAID part of the comparison?

And seeing that the DS3L is supporting only DDR2 1066, can I use DDR2 800 on that board?

Difference between the Gigabyte P35-DS3R and Gigabyte P35-DS3L:
CPU type for the P35-DS3R: Quad-Core / Core 2 Extreme / Core 2 Duo / Pentium
CPU type for the P35-DS3L: Quad-Core / Core 2 Extreme / Core 2 Duo / Pentium Extreme / Pentium

FSB supported by the P35-DS3R: 1600 (O.C.) / 1333 / 1066MHz
FSB supported by the P35-DS3L: 1333 / 1066MHz

Memory Standard for P35-DS3R: DDR2 800 / DDR2 1066
Memory Standard for P35-DS3L: DDR2 1066

SATA 3Gb/s for P35-DS3R: 8
SATA 3Gb/s for P35-DS3L: 4

SATA RAID for P35-DS3R: 0 / 1 / 5 / 10 / JBOD?
SATA RAID for P35-DS3L: None

USB for P35-DS3R: 8 x USB 2.0
USB for P35-DS3L: 4 x USB 2.0

Onboard USB for P35-DS3R: 2 x headers support 4 x USB 2.0 ports
Onboard USB for P35-DS3L: 8 x USB 2.0

I use DDR2 800 on the DS3L and it works great. Maybe you meant the DS3R? then I don't know.

Nope, you're right. I meant the DS3L seeing that the manufacturer said it's only compatible with DDR2 1066, so I was a bit curious and had to make that as one of my questions. ;)

How is the P35-DS3L anyways? Any defects? Running smoothly?

I had this exact same question a week ago when i was ordering mine. Here was the differences i picked out.

DS3L
Less USB Ports
Not Japanese Constructed
Supports ram up to 1066 (it also supports any slower ram like ddr800 and such

DS3R
Raid Function
Japanese construction
More USB ports.

Difference is about 50 bucks. Hope this helps.

thats pretty much all thats to it

they both have same overclocking abilitys...

Agreed. Generally, the advice goes on this forum, that DS3L will do fine unless you need a lot of SATA connectors, or are planning on a RAID array (so generally if you are interested in having many Hard disks).

Yeah i only have two hard disks so i couldn't justify spending 50 dollars on a raid feature. GL to you though, Both are good buys.

Nope, not going to have a lot of storage, so I guess the DS3L would be more then enough? What about their features?

Solid caps don't use electrolyte and supposedly last longer, but you aren't likely to be still using the board by the time the caps leak, really.

I think "Ultra durable" and solid caps go hand in hand on gigabyte products.
