When add more RAM to a system does it have to be the same make of RAM thats already in there?

just as long as its the same type. you cant put ddr2 ram into a ddr or a ddr3 slot for instance or vice versa. check the max speed your board will read it to. if your board can support 667 mhz ddr2 only, if you put 800 in there it will work but will only run at 667 which means you probably just wasted some money but not a big deal there. I would say as long as its the same type, I.E. ddr into a ddr slot and ddr2 in a ddr2 board you will be fine (in theory) also keep in mind your board may not recognize as much as you put in. some boards will only recognize a max of 2 gig of ram, even if its ddr2 (i have a biostar mobo in a build i just did for my little brother thats that way) and also keep in mind that a 32 bit OS wont recognize more then like 3.25 gig of ram.
