So I just got my Micro$oft Windows Vista Home Premium installed, and I noticed something weird in the MSCONFIG Startup tab.

We'll uses jusched.exe as an example.

Jusched.exe is a program that runs in the background to check for updates for the Java runtime environment. If you go to your Java setting in the Control Panel, and disable the "Check for updates automatically" option, then it no longer has need for jusched.exe. In Windows XP, disabling this option would have removed jusched.exe from the msconfig startup... however in Vista, I notice that it's still there!

Why is this program still set to run on startup? Any ideas?

Seems to be the case with other programs too... such as QTTask.exe.

This is because Vista is NOT XP. So unchecking a box on the applicaiton doesnt necessarily remove it startup entry. Jsut cause you remove the "Check for update" doesnt mean they will remove it. Yeah it is Quirky but it is still a process that is being started. It may not be running cause of your setting but it is still a process that is scheduled to start up.
