After years of working retail I've finally put my computer experience and skills into good use and scored a sweet new job as a PC Assembler. Basically I work with a group of 5 other guys assembling and testing PCs and their line of networking devices. I work 8:30 to 5 at a campus that's like 10 minutes away from my house and I make 36k/yr in salary, a far cry from $11.50/hr that I'm making as a Tech Specialist at Officemax. So I put in my notice a couple of days ago (last day at Omax is the 10th) and I'm going to take like a week and a half off before I start my new job on the 21st. All of my knowledge has finally paid off--I've got a sweet office job doing something that I actually consider to be fun and rewarding and I get decent money to boot. No degree (yet) or A+ certification, either. I interviewed with the head of Manufacturing and the CEO and it was an entirely skill-based interview.
This place moved quickly on me. I submitted my resume Sunday night, I was called Monday morning, interviewed on Wednesday at 9am, left at 10am, and they had checked all of my references by 11am. Then he called to offer me the job at 1pm that same day. I had an assembly test during the interview that I sort of fumbled my way through (nervous as ****) but I demonstrated some skill and the rest of it must have definitely gone well enough. So anyways, I'm excited as heck because I finally got the sort of job I've been holding out for now for a long time and considering my place in life (not quite 20) it's looking pretty darn good to me. Cheers!
