Build New vs. Upgrade Old

I'm debating whether to just buy new components, or upgrade an older computer. I have two identical Pentium 3s that I could combine with this dual socket motherboard and a case for about $80 (already have a gig of PC133 SDRAM). Alternatively, I can build a new computer (probably Athlon X2 4000+, decent motherboard, a case+psu, and a gig of RAM) for about $200.

I realize the newer computer would probably be better, but I really hesitate spending that much on anything and am leaning towards the dual socket system because of price; however, I worry about the reliability of a system built with such "old" technology.

Any advice?

The new system would destroy the old one. Just one of the cores in the 4000+ would beat the two pentium 3s by like 4 times lol.

You could run 4 of those pentium 3's and still be at a crawl. Get a new system, your current one is far too outdated to upgrade.
