Mobo's, what to look for

You need to look at the PCI-E slots, some are x16 and some are x-16 2.0. Also, some SLI mobo's only do SLI mode @ x8, x8 instead of full x16, x16. Have to watch that.
Also you need to decide if you want DDR2 or DDR3 ram, some mobo's have slots for both but only a couple. If you want DDR2 look at the Asus Maximus Formula and if you're going DDR3 look at the Asus Maximus Extreme. Both look to be very good OC boards and user friendly. DDR2 is probably the most cost efficient and I plan on going with a maximus formula for my first build. I won't feel as bad overclocking cheap $50 ram as I would $200 ram. Also I was planning on an E6750 but in the interest of future proofing I think I'm just gonna go with a Q6600

i am just looking for a decent build at a decent price,£600 - £800 maby £900 is a good price for me

the only 2 things i trueley decided on is a 500gb HDD and a 8800 gt gpu, and its defo going to be a quad core cpu no sli

Dunno about pounds but in the US the maximus formula is $259 and from what I hear is really user friendly and really good if you plan to overclock. If you're just gonna run standard you could save money by getting a more standard board. 8800GT must be a good choice because newegg is sold out of all their 8800GT 512MB cards

Lots of people run 1600 FSB 24/7. The nvidia boards just have really crappy memory controllers which is what usually dies.

Look for really good intergrated graphic cards on mobo's... they are the most important thing...

yeah the 8800 gt has out done the 8800 gts in a good few benchmarks ( cheack toms hardware ) and at about 1/2 the cost of the gts

For me, a mobo must have a good solid-performing chipset, ample connections (SATA, USB), decent layout (room for a large cooler w/o interfering with RAM and such), good cooling solutions for the various chipsets. Looks are not important to me (closed case), but functionality is of the utmost importance.
