hey guys how are you?I am getting ready to build my first serious gaming pc and I have been to several sites but narrowed it down to two.I have a question about what set up would be better. They are pretty similar bu I believe the alienware is better but i was not sure because of the motherboard difference

Alienware
*4g ram
*8800GTX 768MB Graphics card
*AMD athlon 64 x2 6400 3.2GHZ
*Water Cooled
*750w PS
*PhysX card
*580 SLI Motherboard
*price-2960

Falcom Northwest
*4g ram
*8800gt 512MB
*Intel core 2 duo E6850 3GHz
*Water cooled
*750w PS
*780i motherboard
*price-3545

lol the Alienware has an PhysX card, which btw is useless.

You can build a better comp for ~2K.

Q6600
8800GTX
4GB RAM and everything

EDIT: only way I'd buy the Alienware is if it comes with a 24" LCD monitor and matching Keyboard/Mouse/Case/Monitor

sweet guys appreicate all the help im geting on this...anyways I dont wanna go over 3g and all i really am looking for is something with a decent watercooling system, atleast a 3GHz CPU,4g ram,and atleast a 8800gts,the rest ill leave in you hands you seem to know what your doing lol just pm me with list etc thx again!

I would say considering you want a 3GHz CPU, get a quad core Q6600 (each core is 2.4GHz which adds up to 9.6GHz and overclock it (very easy) to 3GHz on each core, which is 12GHz, it will go up to that on air.

Mikey.

Uh, no....... You do not add processor speed for each core... Just no...

Switch the E6850 for a Q6600 and if you really want it to run at 3 ghz you can overclock it. Get a thermalright ultra 120 extreme for it, rather than watercooling. For the PSU get a corsair 520hx, or something like that, as what really matters in the PSU is the 12v rail. Finally, you probably don't need a 780i motherboard but I don't know what to suggest. Basically get all that off Newegg and it will cost closer to $1000, rather than $3000 or $3500.

clock speeds matter very little nowadays, I mean a Core 2 Duo e6600 (2.4ghz) beats a AMD Athlon 6000+ (3.0ghz), so Core Clock Speeds should not matter at all in your decision in buying

e6850 is really a pointless CPU in my eyes, because you could take an e6550 or e6750 and push it to 3.0ghz without even a voltage increase, and also because you can get the Core 2 Quad q6600 for the same price (or in some cases its cheaper too) plus with it hits 3.0ghz easily and trounces the e6850 in synthetic benchmarks and games heres my recommended build for 2k:

q6600
Abit ix38 motherboard
2 HD3870's
Corsair 520hx
Case of your Preference
HD of your Preference
Crucial Ballistix 2gb kit (or you can get two for 4gb)
Add Monitor and Peripherals if needed...
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (needs a Fan, recommend the Scythe S-Flex) or Water Cooling..
