Okay, I'm not sure If I really know what I'm talking about here.......

I see what appears to be a button-battery on an old motherboard, in an old 650Mhz Gateway computer. I'm assuming that it keeps the BIOS settings intact? I'm guessing that it must be dead, because whenever I unplug this computer for awhile, and then try to boot, it says that the custom BIOS settings have been lost, and that it will "load default settings" -- it aslo asks me to reset the clock. But I don't have this problem if I leave the computer plugged in all the time.

Is this a small, onboard battery that's gone out?

(I need some enlightenment as you can see!) :freak: :p

sounds about right. Try taking the battery out and buying another one from a local radioshack or walgreens, paid about 6$ for a pack of 4 from walgreens
