lol? and no cause if that were the case then you wouldn't need any drives for raid 0.

im pretty sure you need atleast 3 drives to do raid 5.

ok guys, made new revisions to my build based on ur comments, tnks for all ur help. heres my final decisions

CPU: Q6600 /w g0stepping
CPU COOLER: Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
MOBO : Asus P5K
RAM : 4gb (2x2gb) supertalent
GFX: Leadtek 8800gt 512mb
Sound card : Audigy 2 ZS 5.1
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint T 500GB / 2X Samsung Spinpoint T 250GB
O/S: Win XP pro 64bit
PSU: Zippy 500W
CASE: Thermaltake Tsunami

I've decided noiseness isnt a huge factor anymore, im getting the tsunami for a great deal too :)

i've heard a lot of raid discussion on this thread, im not sure what it is, but would i benefit from a faster hdd in any way if i buy 2x 250gb samsung spinpoints and ask the PC tech (whose building my pc :)) to 'raid' them for me? cheers

ill specifically ask for the q6600 with gostepping, as it seems to be a huge overclocking advantage. hope to reach 3.0ghz++ with my q6600 with low temps :). (again, gonna ask the PC tech to o/c for me, i've tried reading newbie guides to overclocking, have absolutely no idea still, also the element of breaking something really gets to me. tnks for all the help.

change the samsung to a seagate 7200.11 32mb cache 500gb
its double the warranty of the samsung plus an extra year and double the cache
and the audigy isn't necessary unless you have nice speakers

done :)

CPU: Q6600 w/ g0stepping
