I was cleaning out one of my older computers, and now it won't start up.

It did previously, but I'm worried I may have damaged something. I tested the power supply, and it started up. However, if I plug it into the motherboard and press the power button, the computer starts for about a second then shuts down. No beeps or anything.

Think this is a problem with the motherboard, power button, or something else?

Most likely the mobo. This is how my problems started. I would hit the power button, it would come up then shut down. If i held the power button down it would finally come up. It finally got to the point this weekend that i get a post error.
