that's right.

so far, I got 36 bucks, but I'm selling my x1900xtx to my friend, for 75 bucks. If I can, I'm gona try to squeeze some more money out of that, since they are like 300+ new (even though there are like NO new ones out), and it has a zalman vf900.

anyways.

I play at 1024x768, but sometimes on my tv at whatever res is good.

How much will the 3850 be after the price drop, and what is the performance difference?

Assuming the prices are $180 USD for the 3850, and $220 USD for the 3870, they are pretty much equal in 'bang for your buck'. If you want to spend the extra $40 for the 3870, you'll get an extra $40 worth of performance.

That being said... I'd get the 3870, but both would be good.

If you're familiar with the nVidia cards, I've also seen them compared like this (I think at Tom's Hardware):
8800GTS 320MB = 3850
8800GTS 640MB = 3870

It's a tough call either way...

Won't the 3870 be 200 after the price drop?

I'll probally have enough. a gpu, and a cpu cooler.

Thanks :)

Maybe... I don't know much about a price drop.

Obviously spending less would be better though. ~_^

The drivers will improve over time. Just use the older/last version until the next set comes out.

The 3870 is the best buy of the two, but both are great cards. The hard part is getting hold of one and not being gouged for it.

O_O

how?

What the ****?

Well it's a general consensus that the 7.11 drivers compared to 7.10 reduced game performance across the board, at least for the hd 3 series. I wouldn't put too much faith in drivers improving performance anymore, I think ati's done all the performance boosting with this architecture it can do already.
