How to prevent USB device from sleeping

I am using my webcam and blue iris as security in my bedroom as my brother has been stelaing items recently. However the camera refuses to record for long periods of time. As the camera is USB I assume this is due to the energy saving sleep feature of USB ports.

Does anyone know how you can prevent a USB device from sleeping?

Control panel--->system--->power management?

Go into Device Manager (if u don't know how, ask), then find your web cam there and go into its properties => power managment, and there uncheck the "V" in the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
