New Server - web server

Hello all,

I needd to get a new web to host a few websites. I want to go for a cheep but respectable brand and model, so something like the Dell PowerEdge SC440 which is currently available at £99 box standard from the Dell Website (I buy from the brand site).

This is what I am on about:
Find a Notebook, Desktop, Server, Printer, Software, Service or Monitor at Dell.

I have a brief knowledge of running a server but can you please advise me of your ideas for operating systems and other hardware/software you might think to reccommend. I want to go for cheap and cheerful as it is only a temporary server.

Linux... definitely. If you go with that Dell, you could spend more on Windows Server than for the machine.

I'd personally go with Ubuntu Server... but there are many decent linux distros out there.
