Hey guys, which processor is better for gaming? An AMD Athlon XP 3000+ or an Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz?

Neither will play any of todays games at decent settings, but the Athlon XP would probably beat the P4 in gaming.

I'm not sure about P4 2.8GHz, but I think it would beat XP 3000+

Since P4 3.0GHz outperforms 3200+, then there is no doubt that P4 2.8GHz perform better than 3000+

Nice try. Old reviews, new cores since then. Gaming is AMD's strong point, not synthetic benchmarks or cherry-picked games from Intel cronies.

The 3000+ will out-game the P4 2.8. The P4 will out-encode the 3000+. Pure and simple.

I posted two links, the second link doesn't show synthetic benchmarks, but gaming benchmark

If you are talking about Athlon64 then maybe you are right. But he is talking about Athlon XP

Nothing was said about socket A. Buying one would not be a smart move. The 64 3000+ beats the P4, hands down.
