DirectX 9 reverse compatibility?

Question regarding DX9... can it play games and such written for previous versions of DirectX? For example, SC is DirectX 7.

Can I install previous versions of DirectX beneath DX9 to run early games?

You do not need to install DX7 / 8 as DX9 will run games using either.

It's all backwards compatible. Just install the latest Directx 9.0c and you're good to go for everything.

I assume you are running XP, since Vista comes with DX10.

Like they already said, make sure you have the latest DX9 installed, and check to see if there is an update patch for the game.

i'm downloading the demo...never played this game but just curious to see if I can work it on vista, it is old aint it?

Starcraft works fine on Vista. I still play Brood Wars from time to time...awesome game.

played the starcraft demo on vista, that thing runs without a hitch.

didn't even need uac fiddling, no run as administrator, just d-clicked, installed, played the tut, had sound and all

I found myself trying to zoom in and out with the scroll wheel, and seeing if I could rotate terrain, lol

I run all my old DX games with DX9c and DX10.
