Planner Software needed

I need a planner software program that:
1) Has a calendar I can write text into
2) Can display the text for that day on the desktop while I do something else
3) Does not use pop-ups for alarms and messages

Thats all I need. However, most desktop planner programs, like lucky reminder, use pop-ups and I can't find one that does not. Its such a simple useful program, someone has to have written a planner that doesn't use pop-ups!

Does Mozilla Sunbird use pop-up alarms? I don't know, but if it doesn't, it's the one I recommend.

Thanks for helping, however Sunbird does use pop-up or sound alarms and the problem is that they can be closed or ignored and if say another member of my family closes it out before I go on the computer for that day, I won't see it.

I'm frustrated so I will make it even simpler:
1) I want to display text on the desktop. Like in the background behind the icons. I know it can be done because I have seen streaming information on stocks on a friends computer. I do not need a stream. Ideally I would like to be able to have the text change depending on the time/date, but first I need to know how to have text in the desktop background.
